Starting a new online venture can be exciting—but also totally overwhelming.
As beginners we juggle so much: learning new tools, building a site, figuring out content, and wondering if it is all even worth it.
Then I came across a quote from Tony Hsieh, the late CEO of Zappos, that hit me hard:
“Chase the vision, not the money; the money will end up following you.”
That quote shifted everything for me. And in this post, I want to share how that idea has shaped the way I approach business—and why it could make all the difference for you too.
What’s Your Vision, Really?
If your only motivation is to “make money online,” burnout comes fast.
What’s helping me stay grounded (and keep going) is taking time to define what I actually want out of this. Here’s how I am doing it:
-
Know your why. Is it time freedom? Helping others? Leaving your job? Get crystal clear on it.
-
Write your vision down. It doesn’t need to be perfect—just something that gives you direction.
-
Check in often. If something feels out of sync with your values, trust that feeling. Staying aligned matters more than chasing trends.
Focus on Helping, Not Just Selling
Here’s a big mindset shift I had to make:
💡 Instead of asking “How can I make money?” I started asking “How can I solve a problem for someone?”
That simple change helps everything feel more natural—and actually started bringing in results. What worked for me:
-
Really listen to your audience. What are they struggling with? What questions do they keep asking?
-
Keep your offers simple. You don’t need 10 products—just one solid solution to a real problem.
-
Prioritize trust. Be helpful, be human, and show up. Trust is what leads to sales—not slick marketing tricks.
Growth Is Part of the Process
Running an online business will stretch you in all kinds of ways—but it’s worth it.
Here’s what I’ve learned:
-
Failure isn’t bad—it’s data. Every mistake taught me something useful (even if it sucked at the time).
-
Keep learning. Courses, mentors, trial-and-error—it all adds up.
-
Stay flexible. You’re allowed to pivot. What you start with isn’t where you have to end up.
